Scotland Blazes Futures Trail
OUSA post
20.07.10
OUSA Conference 2010 showed tremendous support and enthusiasm for the OUSA Futures proposals but it is our students in Scotland who are first out of the starting blocks! The May Executive Committee gave a ringing endorsement to OUSA Scotland’s plans for trialling the new forms of local and national organisation when it backed the detailed application from the Scotland Forum. Now OUSA in Scotland is issuing a clarion call throughout the glens inviting OU students to inaugurate the first ever ‘OUSA Scotland Assembly’.
A personal message has gone out today to OU students across Scotland giving them all the opportunity to participate in their students association. Those keen and able to take a more active part in student affairs in Scotland have the opportunity to stand for one of around 40 Assembly member seats whilst those who just want to make sure they are being effectively represented and can expect a high quality of service and good communications are being encouraged to sign up to the electoral register. This will give them a vote in deciding who their representatives are.
The new style Assembly will be managed by an Executive comprising 6 students elected by the same process as Assembly members plus the current central Executive Committee Member for Scotland. The current incumbent of that latter position, Susan Beech said “ I’m so pleased that students in Scotland are taking the lead at such an important and exciting time for OU students. We’ve often been the ones in front of the queue calling for OUSA to modernise itself and it feels good to be finally taking some concrete strides in that direction.” Susan went on “There’s a big job of work to done on behalf of OU students in Scotland but the most important message we want to get out in these elections is that you don’t need to be some kind of expert or old hand in student affairs, you just need to be a student willing to give it a go at working with other students.”
If you might be interested in working with other students to enhance the student experience - both social and academic - why not invest a little time in looking at what’s on offer!
